All pet owners in Kyle must have their pets registered with the city. The Kyle Animal Control Officer will be at the Petco at 5100 Kyle Center Drive (Next to Kohl’s) from 11am to 1pm on August 29th to register your pet and answer any questions you might have.
Owning a pet can be rewarding, but it also comes with a certain amount of responsibilities. Here are a few things to take into account when it comes to your pet.
How do I register my pet with the city?
- Fill out required registration forms (attached at the bottom of the page)
- Mail pet registration with a copy of the pet’s rabies certificate and the payment to PO Box 40 Kyle, Texas 78640 or bring to the Kyle Police Department at 111 N Front St Kyle, Texas 78640.

What are the required vaccinations for my pet?
- All dogs or cats four months of age or older within the city shall be vaccinated against rabies. Such vaccinations shall be repeated at the intervals prescribed by rule of the state department of health, or its successor.

What are my requirements as a citizen and pet owner under the city ordinances?
- Licensing of animals: All animals four months of age or older which are kept, harbored or maintained within the corporate limits of the city shall be licensed.
- Identification for animals: All animals within the city shall be marked by some type of identifying license, tag, band, tattoo or brand by which the animal’s owner can be identified. Animals exempted from this requirement are mice, rats, rabbits, guineas, hamsters, gerbils, ferrets, fowl and snakes.
- Report incidents: (a) Report of victim. Any person who is bitten or scratched by an animal shall report that fact to the animal control officer within 24 hours. If the person bitten or scratched is a minor under the age of 17 years, the parent or guardian of such minor, if he has knowledge of the incident, shall report that fact to the animal control officer within 24 hours. (b) Report of owner. A person who owns, keeps, harbors or allows an animal to remain on premises under his control and who has knowledge of a bite shall report to the animal control officer within 24 hours any incident where such animal bit or scratched any person.
Important things to know-
- Running at large: An animal shall be considered to be at large if it is: Not under the control of its owner either by a tether, leash, chain, cord, or other suitable material attached to a collar or harness. The animal control officer for the city may impound any animal observed to be at large, whether the animal is on public or private property, subject to the applicable provisions of the law.
- Animals in a motor vehicle: It shall be unlawful for any person to leave any animal in any standing or parked vehicle in such a way as to intentionally, knowingly, recklessly, or with criminal negligence endanger the animal’s health, safety or welfare.
