As you all probably are aware, spring is here and vacation is on your mind!  Let’s face it, we aren’t all made of money and maybe don’t have time for a week long vacation.  It’s a good thing you live in the Austin area because there are so many options for short, budget friendly weekend getaways.

  • FREDERICKSBURG

f4

Fredericksburg is a whopping hour and a half away (if even)!  Fredericksburg has several B&B’s to stay at for a weekend and is packed with things to see and do.  The main street is lined with shopping, delicious German bakeries, and eateries.  The town is surrounded by wineries to visit such as Becker Vinyards, Hilmy Cellars, and Grape Creek just to name a few.  Not far down the road is the Wildseed Farms, the Pioneer Museum, and Enchanted Rock.  There is so much to do and if you go at the right time of year, Hwy 290 has many peach stands that also have homemade peach ice cream!

  • WIMBERLEY

Wimberley is what I like to call a miniature Fredericksbug and much closer to home.  It’s a quaint town on on the river that is full of B&B’s, shops, restaurants, and things to do.  Wimberley is home to Jacobs Well and Blue Hole Regional Park which are great swimming holes in the summer.  Like Fredericksburg, Wimberley has its fair share of wineries as well.  If you are a shopper, I suggest planning your weekend getaway the 1st weekend of any month when Wimberley Market Days is happening.

  • GRUENE

Gruene is tucked away right outside of New Braunfels.  This is the perfect place to go for just a very laid back weekend.  You can rent out a room in a small B&B, shop the streets, eat, and end the night with some live music at Gruene Hall.  This is a great little town to visit in the summer months when you can just rent a tube and plop yourself right on the river.  If this isn’t enough, you can head right around the corner to New Braunfels for its attractions such as Schlitterbahn or Landa Park.

  • PORT ARANSAS

Port Aransas is probably the farthest I would go for a weekend getaway with it being 3 hours away.  It’s a small beach town with shopping, night life, seafood, fishing, and of course the beach!  A great place to go for some fun in the sun that is family friendly.

These should keep you busy for the first few getaways!  This is just a few of what our area offers.  Take advantage of living in central Texas!

Until next time 🙂
