AmandaRickmanMost of you know that spring is right around the corner and if you are like me, you can’t wait!  This winter has been for the birds in my opinion.  If our fireplace wasn’t already worked in, it is now and probably needs a good cleaning along with the rest of the house.  It’s time to get rid of you know….. that stuff they call clutter…. Clutter can really pile up in cold seasons.  I compare myself to a squirrel collecting all kinds of stuff  for winter and it piles up because it’s too cold to clean out my old stuff!

If you are going to be listing your home this year, in my opinion one of the best things you can do is cut down on your clutter so buyers can really see your house and its potential.  It can make a world of difference!

How do you cut down on clutter?

I am guilty of keeping things I know I’ll never use.  The best thing is to do is start making piles of things that you can live without.  Some things you can take to Goodwill and get a tax right off and some may even be able to go to local charities.  Or if you have a lot of stuff, have a garage sale!  You know what they say, ones trash is anothers treasure.

Now what’s left?  Things you want to keep!  So let’s organize it.  Stores such as IKEA, Target, Costco etc…. have some great freestanding storage shelving and containers that won’t break the bank.  Organize all your stuff in categories to put in containers and on shelves and bust out that label maker you always wanted to use!  After this is all said and done not only will your home give a great first impression but will also feel better to come home to!

Not selling your home?  These are still great tips to get organized and make you want to go home at the end of the day not having the stressful clutter.

BONUS: Spring cleaning isn’t only for your home, it’s for your yard too!  Start cleaning out that winter garden bed because it’s time to plant the following in the first half of March in central Texas! :

  • Beets
  • Broccoli
  • Chard
  • Collards
  • Endive
  • Leaf Lettuce
  • Mustard
  • Parsley
  • Garden Peas
  • Radishes
